The dominant Darren Weir-trained duo of Black Heart Bart and Tosen Stardom look to have a stranglehold over a small seven horse Blamey Stakes 2017 field and betting market this Saturday in Melbourne.

In Sydney Winx and the Golden Slipper Stakes are set to steal the show, but Melbourne racing fans are also treated to a Group meeting at Flemington Racecourse on the weekend.

Formerly raced as part of ‘Super Saturday’, the $200,000 Group 2 Blamey Stakes (1600m) is now the feature at its own meeting a week later.

The set weights plus penalties mile showdown has drawn a small line-up this autumn and all the rage in Blamey Stakes betting at Ladbrokes.com.au are stablemates Black Heart Bart and Tosen Stardom who make up half of the four Weir-trained runners in the race.

They ran the quinella in Caulfield’s Group 1 Futurity Stakes (1400m) last time out with Blackfriars six-year-old Black Heart Bart beating home the Japanese import Tosen Stardom by the barest of margins.

Also winning the CF Orr Stakes the start before, Black Heart Bart is now the short-priced $2.10 favourite in the latest Blamey Stakes odds.

The improving Tosen Stardom jumps from gate four with Ben Allen aboard second-up on Saturday and is the early Blamey Stakes market mover backed in from $4 to $3.20 to turn the tables on Black Heart Bart.

Tosen Stardom has also been accepted for a possible Rosehill run on Saturday against Winx in the Group 1 George Ryder Stakes (1500m).

Weir’s other two Blamey Stakes acceptors are Teofilo four-year-old Palentino and Desert King mare Real Love.

Palentino – the $5 third fancy and last of the single-figure hopes – has plenty of form at Flemington with three wins and a second from six previous starts at the track.

He chases his first win since beating home Black Heart Bart in the Group 1 Makybe Diva Stakes (1600m) over the Flemington mile last September and is out to improve on his sixth in the Futurity when beaten just over five lengths.

Dean Yendall rides Real Love in the Blamey Stakes field replacing Brad Rawiller in the saddle who rode her for a last start fifth to Stratum Star in the Group 2 Peter Young Stakes (1800m) on February 25.

Real Love has winning form up to 2600m and from four runs at a mile has two second place finishes.

She was also beaten only one and a quarter-lengths in the Peter Young before being scratched from the Australian Cup last Saturday and could be overs in Blamey Stakes betting 2017 at a current quote of $21.
