Darren Weirâs champion galloper Black Heart Bart is the headliner among the Stradbroke Handicap 2017 nominations now out for the Eagle Farm Group 1 on June 10.

The richest race of the Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival, the $1.5 million Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap (1400m) steals the show in next monthâs major meeting and has attracted a bumper 133 nominations.
Early favourite in the all-in Stradbroke Handicap odds at Ladbrokes.com.au is five-time Group 1 winning Blackfriars six-year-old Black Heart Bart.
Also nominated for the Doomben 10,000 in May, the $3.4 million is likely to defend his title in the Group 1 The Goodwood (1200m) in Adelaide instead before heading to Brisbane for the Stradbroke Handicap.
He won last yearâs The Goodwood before a brave second to Under The Louvre in the Stradbroke Handicap results, which the bookies are tipping Black Heart Bart to go one better than this winter.
The horse was last seen taking out the Group 1 CF Orr Stakes â Futurity Stakes double at Caulfield and is one of 11 Stradbroke Handicap nominations for Weir.
The other key contenders for the record-breaking Victorian horseman include super-consistent miler Burning Front and three-year-old El Divino.
Under The Louvre is not in the mix to defend his title, but trainer Robert Smerdon is in with a shot at back-to-back Stradbroke Handicap victories with two nominees.
Smerdon has nominated for three-year-old Commands colt Oak Door who won the Group 2 Autumn Stakes (1400m) in February along with his smart Casino Prince stallion Hooked who was last seen winning Caulfieldâs Group 3 Victoria Handicap (1400m) on April 15.
Another key chance in pre-field Stradbroke Handicap odds this season is the Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott-trained mare English.
She shoots for a top level win in Adelaideâs Group 1 Robert Sangster Stakes (1200m) this Saturday, May 6, but could be Brisbane-bound for the team after that.
Two mares have beaten home the boys in the Stradbroke Handicap results from the last five years, most recently Srikandi in 2015.
Encosta De Lago four-year-old English is yet to race in Brisbane, but is a proven Group 1 winner and Waterhouse chases her first Stradbroke Handicap success since her victory with All Our Mob back in 1994.
Along with English, Waterhouse & Bott have also nominated for last weekendâs Group 3 Hawkesbury Cup winner Fabrizio.
Other key mares in the Stradbroke Handicap mix this winter include the Bjorn Baker-trained Egyptian Symbol, dual Group 2 winner over the autumn in Sydney In Her Time, Oakleigh Plate winner Sheidel for Lindsay Park and local hope Miss Cover Girl who ran third to reigning Doomben 10,000 winner Music Magnate in the Group 2 Victory Stakes (1200m) last weekend.
The Victory Stakes runner-up Hopfgarten is also nominated for the Stradbroke Handicap as Brisbaneâs Rob Heathcote chases his first win in the classic.
The Stradbroke Handicap 2017 first acceptances close on May 31, while updated odds are set for release shortly at Ladbrokes.com.au.
