Two early scratchings from the original starting line-up for Saturdayâs $1 million Group 1 Darley Goodwood (1200m) have the first two emergencies â Lucky Liberty and Lope De Capio â in the mix for Morphettville Race 7 at 4:20pm (ACST).
Updated The Goodwood odds at Ladbrokes.com.au remain firmly led by the reigning champion Black Heart Bart ($3.50) who is out to be the first in over 100 years to successfully salute in back-to-back editions of the race.
Darren Weirâs five-time Group 1 champion is first-up on the weekend and was last seen taking out the CF Orr â Futurity Stakes double at Caulfield over 1400m in February.
Heâs a top performer fresh, is drawn ideally and could be a class above this field.
The other best in The Goodwood betting this autumn include the now Lindsay Park-trained Vega Magic ($6.50) and Mick Priceâs in-form mare Secret Agenda ($7) who the money is coming for to complete the Robert Sangster Stakes â Goodwood double.
Earlier in the week we published our comprehensive 2017 The Goodwood Form Guide Analysis and based on the facts and stats uncovered weâve got the top Adelaide Group 1 racing tips to take to the bookies this weekend.
1st
#6 Secret Agenda ($7)
Mares have won three editions of The Goodwood in the past decade and thereâs plenty of form surrounding this classy daughter of Not A Single Doubt. The four-year-old has won her past two on the trot, including the Group 1 Robert Sangster Stakes at this track and distance a fortnight back. This is a much tougher race, but she did an outstanding job from out wide (16 of 20) for a nearly two length victory in that and gets her chance here against the boys. Price has prepared two previous The Goodwood winners and from barrier five with D. Oliver riding thereâs plenty to like about an upset from the market mover.
2nd
#1 Black Heart Bart ($3.50)
Itâs hard to knock the reigning champion and the only negative is that he gives away the fitness edge. Back-to-back The Goodwood wins havenât been achieved for over 100 years, but if any horse can do it Black Heart Bart is it. He has last yearâs winning hoop Brad Rawiller in the saddle again and jumps from the same gate he won from in 2016 (2). Has top form first-up and this is his pet distance (8-4-3-0), even though his last two Group 1 wins were over the 1400m at Caulfield. Weight-for-age star whoâll take some beating.
3rd
#11 First Among Equals ($21)
Blow-out chance could be this Simon Miller-trained Perth visitor who has a great record at 1200m (8-5-1-0) and who will appreciate getting out over the distance after a first-up win in WA in the Listed Northam Stakes (1100m) on May 7. This is his first Morphettville assignment, but goes well two runs in (4-2-1-1) and was fourth, beaten only a length, in the Group 1 Winterbottom Stakes (1200m) back home in November. After that he ran third to Vega Magic over 1400m and the winner of that race is at way shorter odds for The Goodwood. With a 72% Place Rate, looks the value.
